 "AI - Ethics and Basics" provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental concepts and ethical considerations of utilizing artificial intelligence in legal practice. Led by instructor Isabella Hughes, the curriculum covers core terminology, cybersecurity foundations, and the various types of AI—ranging from generative to predictive—currently impacting the legal field. A significant portion of the instruction is dedicated to identifying and mitigating risks such as hallucinations and authority laundering, with a specific focus on maintaining professional standards through a detailed review of ABA Opinion 512 and its implications for competence, confidentiality, and billing. Through practical demonstrations and a review of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct, attorneys will gain the essential knowledge needed to leverage AI for increased efficiency and higher-value output while strictly adhering to their ethical obligations.

Ms. Hughes is a law graduate, legal tech founder, and international boxer. Ms. Hughes is co-founder of both Simple Probate and EstateMin, global legal tech platforms focused on streamlining probate and estate administration for lawyers and their clients. Currently, she focuses her attention on her work as Co-Founder and CEO of EstateMin.com. With a background in law and hands-on experience as a legal executive/paralegal in her native Ireland, Ms. Hughes saw how inefficient and overwhelming the probate process could be. That insight sparked the creation of solutions that reduce admin, improve communication, and help firms do more with less. As with her boxing prowess, Ms. Hughes has taken her probate system into the international arena.  

Outside of work, Isabella is an elite international boxer. The discipline, resilience, and tenacity in the ring directly influence how she leads, builds, and problem-solves in the startup world.
